ORWIGSBURG – Rep. Jerry Knowles (R-Berks/Carbon/Schuylkill) today announced a $750,000 Redevelopment Capital Assistance Program (RCAP) grant to complete necessary renovations to the Orwigsburg Veterans Community Memorial Hall.
“On behalf of Sen. Dave Argall, Reps. Neil Goodman and Mike Tobash, I want to express appreciation to the governor for recognizing the value of this tremendous regional asset,” said Knowles. “I am beyond thrilled to see the Orwigsburg Veterans Community Memorial Hall receive this much-needed support to continue serving our hometown military heroes. This is another example of a successful private-public partnership with elected officials and community leaders working together to achieve a common goal.”
“Congratulations to the volunteers who never gave up on supporting this worthy project,” said Argall. “This is a big day for all of them!”
The $750,000 grant awarded to Orwigsburg Borough will be used to complete various interior and exterior improvements to the Veterans Community Memorial Hall — most notably — the completion of the Veterans Foyer of Honor to recognize all area veterans and renovation project contributors.
“I would like to thank the governor for approving this much-needed RCAP funding which will go a long way toward expanding the services and outstanding programming that have long been associated with the regional mission of the Orwigsburg Veterans Community Memorial Hall,” said Goodman. “As a veteran myself, I know this funding will be greatly appreciated by Schuylkill County veterans and their families. Many thanks to Rep. Jerry Knowles for his tireless efforts in making the completion of this critical renovation project a reality.”
“The Borough of Orwigsburg, borough council and Orwigsburg Veterans Community Memorial Hall Task Force are extremely grateful to Gov. Tom Wolf for awarding this RCAP grant,” said Orwigsburg Veterans Community Memorial Hall Task Force President Robert Carl, Jr. “We are also especially thankful for the leadership and untiring work of Rep. Jerry Knowles in recognizing and supporting the intended purpose of this important building and to those it is dedicated to serving —our region’s veterans.”
