Rep. Jerry Knowles was elected to serve the people of the 124th Legislative District during a special election in May 2009. As a state representative, Knowles plans to focus on:
- Eliminating the school property tax burden placed on Pennsylvania’s homeowners.
- Controlling government spending.
- Creating jobs.
- Improving Pennsylvania’s business climate to ensure that we retain job creating businesses and attract new ones.
- Recruiting and retaining volunteer firefighters in our communities.
Knowles has spent most of his adult life in service to the people of the 124th. He served as a police officer and later as a borough councilman and mayor of Tamaqua. In addition, he spent six years as a Schuylkill County commissioner and over ten years on the staff of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and as Director of Special Projects for former Rep. Dave Argall.
In addition to Knowles’ professional endeavors, he is also active in the local community, serving as board member and past president of the Tamaqua Industrial Development Enterprise Boards, the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce, the Carbon-Tamaqua chapter of the American Cancer Society, the Knights of Columbus Council 2711, the Tamaqua South Ward Fire Company, the Tamaqua Lions Club, Tamaqua Elks Lodge 592, and the Schuylkill County Republican Executive Committee.
A lifelong resident of Schuylkill County, Knowles is a graduate of Marian Catholic High School. He is also a graduate of Thaddeus Stevens Trade School in Lancaster.
Knowles and his wife, Lorraine, currently reside in Tamaqua. They have two grown sons and one grandchild.
